Design Fringe 2022

Saturday 17th September - Sunday 27th November 2022, Linden New Art, St Kilda, Melbourne

Design Fringe exhibition, a part of Melbourne Fringe 2022, features over 100 works from furniture, lighting and object designers of Melbourne. The exhibition theme was "Design the Future: Don’t Waste Time." I exhibited my Fish stools.

Fish is more than just a stool that is handy to carry around. It provokes conversations around seafood/sea life, plastic waste and sustainability. More specifically, it addresses the issue of micro-plastics in our oceans, on our beaches and in our sea life. This piece evolved over the past year as I’ve been travelling throughout New Zealand and Australia. Fishing, swimming, snorkelling in the Great Barrier Reef, encountering beautiful wild sting rays and watching documentaries about the ocean I have realised how important the sea and its inhabitants are, both to me and the whole world. Fish is the outcome of this collection of meaningful and eye-opening experiences. The hope is that some viewers may also start to question their beliefs and behaviour in regard to plastic, ocean conservation and the fishing industry, which all play an important role in the future sustainability of our planet.
