Pop 'round: one person's junk is another person's chair

Friday 19th May - Thursday 25th May 2023, Dark Horse Experiment, West Melbourne, Melbourne.

I co-organised (with Maryam Moghadam and Carl Broesen) and exhibited in this show for Melbourne Design Week 2023. I exhibited Schach, Fish and Rope Me Up. The exhibition also featured work from: Adam Markowitz, Alisher Mirzaev, Apple Huang, Carl Broesen, Elizabeth Lawrence, Hannes Fehrmann, Harry Vasey, Jack Stannard, Maryam Moghadam, Richard Astley and Suraj Vijayakumar.

“Pop ‘round is a casual yet classy collection of furniture presented by Pop ‘Round Collective; a trio of emerging designers that have come together through a mutual passion for materiality, sustainability and love for sharing creativity with others. We draw inspiration from the current trajectory of our world, and aspire to produce work that is relevant and necessary.

Combining our passion, inspiration and aspiration, Pop ‘round was born; a furniture exhibition that showcases materiality and transparency while breaking the constraints of a traditional exhibition experience.

With the exception of some necessary hardware, fasteners and small mechanisms, all Pop ‘round furniture is constructed from used materials we have rescued from junkyards, factory bins, nature strips, online second-hand marketplaces and more. Like guests visiting our home, we welcome our audience to interact with our furniture, test their functions and use them when engaging with other visitors. Our creations have sought to meet a high-end, premium standard in hope of changing our audience’s view of waste from “disposal” to “desirable”. Our making process and material sourcing is also showcased in order to educate, inspire and to reach complete transparency with our audience.”

Proudly sponsored by Tait, Adam Goodrum Studio, Sobah, Monday Distillery, Wallaby Water, First St Pantry, Marisa's Kitchen, Grampians Olive Co. and Dibble.
