Shared Surfaces Sideboard with Presentation Plates
Shared Surfaces Sideboard with Presentation Plates
Made entirely from offcuts and found materials, this sideboard is a study in resourcefulness and contrast. The OSB board—a low-cost, utilitarian material—is sourced from various origins: a discarded tabletop offered in a local “Sharing is Caring” Telegram group, a leftover panel from a fellow maker’s project, and smaller scraps from the communal material rack in my shared workshop. Assembled simply and quickly, the piece embraces imperfection and improvisation. Inside, solid timber “presentation plates” create moments of quiet refinement—small stages for displaying cherished objects at home. These inserts act as a counterpoint to the raw OSB, highlighting the value of both what is saved and what is special. Shared Surfaces is as much about community and reuse as it is about function, offering a modest yet thoughtful reflection on how and why we make.
